La La Land to tour with live orchestra

Oscar-winning musical will screen with 60-piece band in five UK cities, including Edinburgh, Birmingham and Manchester

Oscar-winning musical La La Land gets the live cinema treatment this September, as a 60-piece orchestra performs Justin Hurwitz' award-winning score at screenings across the UK. The 2017 tour will visit Manchester, Bristol, York, Birmingham and Edinburgh.

Tickets for all dates are on sale from Wed 8 Mar (pre-sale from 9am) and Fri 10 Mar (from 9am).

La La Land tells the story of an aspiring actress (Emma Stone) and a jazz musician (Ryan Gosling), both trying to make ends meet in modern-day Los Angeles. It's the third feature from director Damien Chazelle, who also received acclaim in 2015 for his last film Whiplash, another jazz-inspired effort about an aspiring drummer at a competitive music school.

Although it famously missed out on the top award, La La Land nevertheless bagged an impressive six Academy gongs, including Best Director for Chazelle. Its music has come in for singular commendation, with Oscars for Best Original Score for Hurwitz and Best Original Song for 'City of Stars' (the emotional 'Audition', which plays at the film's close, was also nominated). Hurwitz won a BAFTA and a Golden Globe for his score as well.
