One night in his near-empty tower block in contemporary London, Adam (Andrew Scott) has a chance encounter with a mysterious neighbour Harry (Paul Mescal), which punctures the rhythm of his everyday life.

As a relationship develops between them, Adam is preoccupied with memories of the past and finds himself drawn back to the suburban town where he grew up, and the childhood home where his parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell), appear to be living, just as they were on the day they died, 30 years before.

Hamlet

HAMLET starring Ian McKellan
  • 2023
  • UK
  • 1h 26min
  • Directed by: Ken McMullen
  • Cast: Ian McKellen, Dominique Pinon, Gabriella Wright, John Shrapnel, Lex Shrapnel, Ben Turner

Two-time Academy Award nominee Ian McKellen stars in this thrilling and uniquely modern take on The Bard’s classic tragedy. A tale of revenge that has stood the test of time, Shakespeare’s classic tragedy is reimagined for the modern day as a gripping psychological thriller. Transcending the confines of the stage in a uniquely cinematic take, the film utilises nearly every room of the Theatre Royal Windsor to transform it into the immortal Elsinore Castle, from basement dungeon to rooftop battlement. Ian McKellen - reprising his lead role as Hamlet, a man who descends into madness as he seeks vengeance against his uncle for the apparent murder of his father - leads a stellar cast including stage and screen legend Steven Berkoff, Frances Barber, Jonathan Hyde and BAFTA winner Francesca Annis, bringing their iconic roles to life in this compelling new film adaptation.

The screening will be followed by a recorded Q&A with Ian McKellen and Sean Mathias.

  • Directed by: Celine Song
  • Cast: Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, John Magaro, Moon Seung-ah

A budding childhood romance between Nora and Hae Sung, classmates at a primary school in Seoul, ends abruptly when Nora’s family emigrates to Canada. Twelve years later, Nora - now a playwriting student in New York - notices that Hae Sung’s been searching social media for her. They reconnect online and even imagine a reunion. But another dozen years pass before they finally meet during his visit to New York. Although their lives have changed dramatically, they remain bound by a wistful connection.

An aching, deeply romantic debut feature from playwright Celine Song, Past Lives is a love story told across three moments in time. Song’s artful aesthetic and profound character writing, and the spellbinding performances she draws from Greta Lee, Teo Yoo and John Magaro (whose fates intertwine) explore love, identity, and ‘In Yun’, a Korean notion of fate stemming from two people’s connection in a past life.

Muswell Hill's handsome cinema dates from 1936, and is a grade II listed building; its interior is the most elaborate of any original Odeon cinema to survive.

It was subdivided into three screens in 1974, with the result that in the main auditorium the seats are all in the balcony.

It is now a five screen Everyman cinema with 469 seats.

The two smaller screens, 2 & 3, have wheelchair spaces but screen 1 has no disabled access. There are disabled toilets and parking spaces, but no hearing loops. The cinema has its own car park at the rear of the building.

The cinema is served by bus stops for the 102, 234, 603 routes, with the 43 and 134 around the corner on Muswell Hill Road. The nearest Tubes are East Finchley, a little over a mile to the west (follow Fortis Green), or Highgate to the south, down Muswell Hill Road.
