Westmorland Orchestra "Northern Lights" Concert - Sibelius, Nielsen, Rautavarra

Westmorland Orchestra "Northern Lights" Concert

Our "Northern Lights" programme takes us to Scandinavia featuring works by Jean Sibelius, Einojuhani Rautavaara and Carl Nielsen.
Sibelius' Symphony No. 1 probably needs no introduction but we are delighted to be performing less well-known works. Nielsen's Helios Overture represents the sun rising out of the darkness before sinking below the horizon where the sky meets the sea. Cantus Arcticus by Rautavaara is a "Concerto for Birds and Orchestra" featuring recordings of birdsong blending with the live orchestra.
