Nobody defines the glamour, style and excess of 1970s fashion more than Roy Halston Frowick. His minimalist designs stunned the fashion world and made ultrasuede a household fabric. He was also a trendsetter in establishing the dominance of a brand name. Whitney Sudler-Smith’s hugely entertaining documentary is an unmissable chance to return to the decade of decadence; endless nights at Studio 54, swanky Fifth Avenue offices overflowing with expensive orchids and celebrity admirers that included Elizabeth Taylor, Andy Warhol and best pal Liza Minnelli. Halston began by designing dresses for his mother and sister and wound up with a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. The documentary traces a fabulous journey. As Liza Minnelli remarks: ‘This is a great American who changed fashion’. Part of Glasgow Film Festival
