Made in 1929 but set in the future (1950!), this British answer to Metropolis was made on a smaller budget and based on a play by right-wing MP Noel Pemberton-Billing. Featuring such far-off innovations as videophones and a Channel Tunnel, its depiction of terrorism remains chillingly relevant.
