A 35mm screening of a rare BFI archive print of an early talkie film, The Loves of Robert Burns (Herbert Wilcox, 1930). Exploring the life and loves of Robert Burns, The Loves of Robert Burns celebrates the arrival of sound in cinema through its inclusion of several popular songs of the period such as Annie Laurie, Comin’ thro’ the rye and Auld Lang Syne. The bard is played by Joseph Hislop, who was a world-famous Scottish tenor at the time.
